Is a Gorilla Trek Worthy It? Experts Explain

If your dream is to trek gorillas in Uganda then you need $600 to secure a permit and this applies for foreign non-residents, $500 for foreign residents and shs 250000 for East African residents. And if you need to enhance your experience about these creatures, gorilla habituation experience is the best alternative and this equally comes at a cost. Permits for habituation experience cost $1500 per person (foreign non-residents), $1000 per person (foreign residents) and shs 750000 for East African residents.

Gorilla permits in Uganda can be obtained through a trust worthy tour operator or through a reservation department at Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). In Rwanda, permits can be obtained at $1500 per person while in the DR Congo, you need $400 to book a permit-both for mountain gorillas and eastern lowland gorilla trekking. Part of fees paid for gorilla trekking is used to support a number of local community projects that at end all play a role towards achieving the set conservation goals. In Uganda,local communities get 20 percent of the revenue sharing and in Rwanda it is 10 percent.

Note that one gorilla permit is equal to one visit to a habituated family that is allowed for you to track these great apes in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park or Volcanoes National Park or Virunga National Park.

It is this that gives you an hour to strike your imaginations with these creatures, explore their behavior and others. It is this 1 hour with these creatures that is raises many questions-‘is it worth it?’ The fact is that it is worth it imagine striking your eyes with these apes while in their natural habitat-that experience is what is best described as lifetime and magical. Whether you are looking to a budget gorilla trek or a luxury safari, the visit to the mountain gorillas is worthy the price attached to it!

The an hour isn’t set for sake but for the well-being of these creatures in the wild as it is one way to reduce their exposure to humans that may come with higher chances for them to catch human infectious diseases like flu, colds and others.  To trek to view mountain gorillas, it is never like any other ordinary walk that you ever taken part but rather a thrilling and breathtaking experience that takes you through dense tropical rain forests in Africa.

Gorilla treks are only done in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga National Park southwestern Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda and the Virunga National Park in eastern DR Congo. These great apes thrive between altitude 1500 and 3000 meters.
