The Maasai People are among the most popular African tribes of Africa. Living in Kenya, the Masai are a Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting Central and Southern Kenya and Northern Tanzania
The Masai live in the Rift Valley in Africa in the regions of Tanzania and Kenya. They have herds of cattle, goats, and sheep and follow each other seasonally. They graze here and look out for newer sources of water. The Maasai tribe has been very independent and likes to live off the blood of cattle. They also take meat and milk from the very cattle, which gave them milk earlier.
There are many intriguing Maasai traditions. They have a mixed diet and usually are found in the desert type of land. They live a very sedentary pattern of life and some of them have been successful in buying cultivated food as well as growing them. The Maasai men are mainly warriors and are mostly six feet tall with beaded hair and wear a shuka, which is a red checked blanket. Maasai boys have a circumcision ceremony when they turn 14 and they spend at least 8 years taking care of the livestock away from their villages. When they come back, they become warriors and then get married.
The Maasai women take care of the domestic household work milk the cows and collect water. They take care of the children and look beautiful with their large beaded necklace and long braided hair. Tourists coming to Africa love to take photos of Maasai women.
People in fact visit Tanzania and Kenya for the national parks, wildlife and for this indigenous tribal clan. However these wildlife parks are a problem to the Maasai. As the wildlife occupy the large tracts of land which disturbs their cattle.
