It was President El Hadj Omar Bonto who gave around 10% of the country’s green zones and made it into national parks. So these open zones began to be closed to all the miners and the loggers and are open only for all the ecotourists, travelers and conservationists. Today Gabon is a place where you can get to see the best sights of the tropical rainforests and explore the lovely white sands of the beaches that are found here. The Loango National Park with its location on the Southern Gabon Coast is popular amongst tourists for its lovely hippos which roam in this region.

Then there is the eastern part of Gabon where you have the Ivindo National Park which has the best eco camp and has a great sight of gorillas and elephants. The coastal plains and the mountains and the savanna form the main landscape of Gabon and it has an interesting terrain with the Chaillu Massif in the centre rising to around 1575m. The largest river here is the Ogooue and it is around 1200 km long

Gabon is famous for its caves found in plenty here. The karst areas are the places where the best plethora of limestone and dolomite rocks is found. The Grotte du Lastoursville, the Grotte du BOngolo, the Grotte du Kessipougou and he Grotte du Lebamba are famous caves to be visited in Gabon.

In the year 2002, President Omar Bongo Ondimba put Gabon on the ecotourism map and designated more than 11% of the nation’s green zones to be great parks. There are in all 13 parks in the country. Besides the fact that natural resources such as magnesium, iron, uranium, gold and natural forests.

The Ivindo National Park is another national park that was declared as a national park in the year 2002, and the park was demarcated in the year 2004. This is situated in the central eastern part of Gabon and is divided into two by the equator. The world first came to know about this park when Mike Fay passed the Ivindo national park in the expedition in the year 2000.

Also there is the Langoue Bai which is a park established by the Wildlife Conservation Society and here the main focus is to watch the movements of the large mammals and the wildlife here. So get to see the best sights of gorillas, elephants and the buffalos notwithstanding the siatungas. There are many animals which are fitted with GPS transmitters, so that one can analyse their movements. Then you also have the forest buffalo, the red river hog, the chimpanzee, the leopard and the slender snouted crocodile.

With lovely butterflies also dominating the region, Gabon is a wonderful country to visit and a great place to be in.

Visit Equatorial Guinea set in the most beautiful surroundings and ensconced in the most verdant stretches of land. Get into this land of pleasures, travel thrills and excitement. Come and enjoy the best of what you could give yourself in this part of the world.

Visit Malabo or Pico Malabo as it is called and enjoy the sights in this rundown city with its intriguing scenes. There are very few hotels and restaurants here and some of them are just enough to satisfy your hungry palate. Go to the Luba or the Riaba and enjoy the scenery of these places. The beaches in both places are quite pleasantly enjoyable so experience the exotic nature of these regions.

Then you have Annobon to visit which is another beautiful region of Equatorial Guinea. Lying around 500 km to the southwest of Rio Piedras, Anobon is a small island that lies in the region of Biafra. The locals call it Pagalu and the island is around 8 kilometres from north to south and more than 3 kilometres in width. Spanning over an area of around 17 square kilometre this is a perfect tourist locale with its mountainous terrain and greatly majestic peaks. The Pico del Fuego lies to its north and you have the Pico del Centro lying in the south. The Pico del Fuego is around 454 metres in height and the Pico del Centro is around 630 m. Pico Surcado is a volcano that is extinct and here there is a lake that is located in the crater that formed early. San Antonio is a village which is inhabited by more than 400 people and is also the biggest town in this part of the world. Situated to the south of Punta del Palmar the San Antonio village is a lovely and picturesque zone here in the Equatorial Guinea.

Go to Luba which is located less than 50 kms from the city of Malabo. This is the second largest town in Bioko and is a perfect beach paradise for all. the Arena Blanca is a beautiful place to visit along with the innumerable small fishing villages which provide the sights of being in a garden of eden. There are hiking trails for those who are interested in advednture. You need not worry about transport here as there are many minibuses and taxis which take you back to the capital. Communaut Finciaire Africaine or the CFA is the currency here. Luba has only two cafes so and is an intrigue to many tourists. There are no facilities for overnight stay so visit this place in the day and come back. There is a booth which supplies material and also fabricates it to be given in the offshore oilfields that lies in the southern part of this town.

Then you have Rio Muni which is that part of Equatorial Guinea that is located on the African mainland. This is the least traveled portions of Africa and an exploring tourist would surely love this region. To the south of this town is a great beach paradise. One gets regular flights from a place called Bata going to Malabo. There is a ferry once a week which carries you across the place. There are no good roads here which make the travel a little difficult.. Coco Beach and Acalayong do not have a bridge in between them. Take your own vehicle to Libreville and take a detour to Evinayong.

Equatorial Guinea is a land of pleasure, thrill and excitement coupled with a lot of travel pleasure.

Amidst the interesting sights in Africa, the best to see are the upcoming cities here that are so much a part of this place. Today after the aftermath of the war, Angola in Central Africa is a great tourist destination. Central Africa today is known as Middle Africa as referred to by the UN, and travellers here like to bask in the Portuguese influence that is prevalent here even now. Tourists enjoy the amazing length of the coastline here that seems to stretch to an eternity. With the most serene wildlife zones and an equally intriguing landscape, Angola in Africa is not a bad bet at all in an African tour.

With the thick forests occupying a major part of the region, the rivers that flow through this place define its geographical diversity and the tourists love to enjoy the simply mesmerising feel that one gets when one comes here. The sandy terrain of the Namibian desert and the lovely atmosphere around makes the land a perfect haven for all those who wish to have some pleasures in this part of the world. The African wildlife here is very unique and the black palanca antelope is very special here in these regions.

Angola is re-emerging from decades of civil war, and adventurous travellers are beginning to tentatively discover its Portuguese architecture, miles of stunning coastline and little-visited wildlife parks. One can fly to Angola with Luanda as the nearest airport or come here by train, or even take the boat to the various ports of Namibe, Malongo, Luanda and Lobito.

While travelling to Angola there are some rules to be followed by all tourists. There are some restrictions of movements on visitors coming to the provinces lying in the north and the south of the Luanda region. It is better if they visitors come here through a sponsoring organization. Then crime should be taken care of. It is better to register with the respective embassy here on arrival and deregister when they leave.

Amongst the many things to do in Angola, the Calandula Waterfalls are greatly fascinating and endearing to see. The phenomenal sight of this huge water body, situated in the Malanje area of Middle Africa, the scenes during the rainy season is seen to be believed.

Visit the forts in the coastal areas especially the Fort Sao Miguel. Constructed in the year 1789, the fort was a slave depot and a great residential area for the Portuguese who lived here.

Enjoy the cultural delights at the Humbi Humbi art gallery located in Luanda and also experience the beach experience here at the Ilha beaches. This is just around five minutes from the main city and is a popular tourist spot.

Then you have the Kissama National Park which is another verdant beauty in this part of middle Africa. Around 70 km from Luanda, the park has the best kinds of wild animals like the palanca antelope which is actually found only in the Angolan region.

Then of course you have the magnificent city of Luanda which is the Angolan capital and has innumerable places of interest. See the fortress having the Museum of the Armed forces here and also go around the National museum of Anthropology.

At Luanda the Museum of Slavery is very famous and the historical value of this place is something to be felt.

Enjoy fishing at Santiago and just let your travel juices flow in Angola.

Loango National Park is assuredly one of the visually striking and most varied of all national parks of Gabon, known for its mythically surfing hippos. It protects miscellaneous coastal habitat, including part of 220 kilometers lguela Lagoon, one of the significant examples of usual Western African Lagoon system, which is protected within national park. Located among Ndogo and Nkomi Lagoons, it is a true jewel of western coast of Africa. The naturalist Mike Fay known as Loango Africa’s Last Eden and is where Michael Nichols from National Geographic took his well known images of surfing hippos.

People call Loango National Park as a Land of Surfing Hippos. The 1550 kilometers of the park of pristine beach, mangroves, savanna and forest are must see in Gabon. The Loango NP provides pioneering panoramas and exclusive opportunity for observing leopards, elephants, gorillas, buffalos and hippos venturing onto white sand beaches. After South Africa, the biggest concentration of the world and plethora of dolphins and whales are found right off Loango coast. The region has more than 100km of unpopulated coastline with killer and humpback whales that are easy to observe in this park. It is questionably one of the most beautiful spots on the western coast of Africa, a place where ocean, forests, lagoons, savannas and wetlands all come together. The Loango is quite famous all over the world for tarpon site with other saltwater large fishes.

The International Union or World Conservation Union for Natural Resources and Conservation of Nature, a global firm dedicated to natural resources categorized Loango National Park as protected region and faunal reserve for conservation. The original faunal reserves were created in and around this park in the year 1956 for promoting sustainable use of wild lands and wildlife of the region. In the year 2002, Mr. Omar Bongo Ondimba, a President put Gabon strongly on map by producing thirteen new recreational parks in Gabon, which created 10 percent of Gabon’s landmass. A pioneering Dutch investor, Rombout Swanborn in Conservation Tourism urbanized Societe de Conservation de Developpement (SCD). Park management, educational activities and Research are performed in partnership with WCS. He also created Eden of Africa urbanizing logistics and infrastructure for providing high-end nature tourism experiences in remote areas of Gabon based on concept “Tourism pays for Conservation”.

Like other people all over the world, Loango National Park’s human inhabitants region remains dependent on natural resources, which surround them for their daily wants. At present, quite a few Gabonese citizens have taken up employment within contemporary industries and wandered toward urban centres; including timber and oil production and for the most part persons living in conventional villages still depend heavily on their natural surroundings for their everyday wants.

Village-dwelling individuals use agricultural, slash and burn technique and grow plenty of domesticated plant species such as peanuts, mustard greens and manioc. Women are responsible for gardening, clearing of brush and trees and save for introductory felling. Men make their living by hunting or fishing. Fishermen throw nets, long lines, gill nets, fish spears and traps, baited hooks and use long nets for catching shrimp and fish. Land crabs can be caught by hand. Conventional hunting gear like arrows and bows, deadfall and spring traps and spears have been replaced by high calibre shotguns and rifles. Abundant food products are harvested wild in the forest, from the beaches or savannah like turtle eggs.

Loango National Park is one of the most famous national parks for tourists in the entire Gabon. Wildlife admirers safari excursions always find this park pretty interesting with innumerable opportunities of spotting diverse concentrations of wild game, including dolphins and whale species. Travellers get terrific opportunities for observing hippos, buffalos, gorillas, leopards and elephants roaming along and around white sand beaches. It extends more than 100 kilometers of abandoned coastline and you can easily spot killer and humpback whales here.

Loango Lodge is set outside the Loango National Park on the lagoon and lies in serene environment perfect for Gabon holidays. The safari lodge is administered by Eden of Africa employs licensed Gabon Tour operators who systematize wildlife tours and itineraries the main lodge to other places. They also systematize camp in savannah jungle providing exclusive experiences to park visitors. Amongst good-looking amenities offered at this lodge include restaurant, comfortable lodging rooms and small pool. You will find outside deck right on lagoon, which overlooks the national park providing a marvellous view for watching animals on the other side.

Djenne is an Urban Commune and town in Inland Niger Delta region of central Mali. In the year 2009, the commune had 32,944 inhabitants and administratively it is a part of Mopti Region. It is a city in Mali well-known for its mosque, the largest mudbrick building in the world. As of 1987, it has been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site. It says on its website that Djenne became important link and market centre in trans-Saharan gold trade. The Djenne’s history is intimately linked with Timbuktu. Between 15th and 17th centuries much of trans-Saharan trade in goods like slaves, salt and gold moved out and in of Timbuktu passed via Djenne. Both cities became Islamic scholarship centres. Its prosperity relied on this trade and when Portuguese founded trading posts on the coast of Africa, the significance of trans-Saharan trade and Djenne declined.

Djenne is located 247 miles Bamako’s northeast and 47 miles Mopti’s southwest and sits on floodplain between Bani and Niger Rivers at southern end of Inland Niger Delta. For organizational reasons, the town forms part of Djenne’s Urban Commune that covers an area of 302 kilometers and comprises of town itself surrounding villages – Yenleda, Balle, Velingara, Diabolo, Syn, Gomnikouboye, Kera, Kamaraga, Soala and Niala. The population figures are for commune and including these villages. The commune is surrounded to south by communes of Dandougou Fakala; to north by communes of Derary and Ouro Ali; to west by communes of Pondori and to east by communes of Fakala and Madiama.

Only the winter months of January and December of Djenne have average daily maximum temperatures under 32°C. Between March and December the warm dry north easterly Harmattan wind blows from Sahara. Situated 2.5 kilometers southeast of present town is an archaeological site of Djenné-Jéno or Djoboro. Excavations undertaken by Roderick and Susan McIntosh in the year 1977-1981 specify that Djenné-Jéno was originally settled around 200 BC. It had urbanized into huge walled urban complex by 850 AD, however after 1100 AD, the population of the town declined. Many smaller settlements within Djenné-Jéno’s few kilometres appear to have been discarded around this date. Initial archaeological excavations at sites within modern Djenné specify that present town was initially settled after 1000 AD.

Djenne is popular for Sudanese style architecture and almost all apartments in the city along with Great Mosque are constructed from sun-baked mudbricks that are coated with mud plaster. The conventional flat roofed two-storey houses are developed around small central courtyard and have striking facades with pilaster like buttresses and intricate arrangement of pinnacles forming parapet above entrance door. Even though historically Djenne had been a significant trading and commercial centre, in the 20th century commerce in town declined because of its comparatively inaccessible position. The local economy is primarily based on fishing, livestock and agriculture and is quite dependent on flooding of Bani and Niger rivers and annual rainfall.

The Tomb to Tupama Djenepo and Grand Mosque are the main attractions of Djenne. The Great Mosque is one of the major Djenne sights and governs old town. It is created in usual Sudanic style. Sun-baked mud bricks have been used in its construction and looks like large sand castle with three wooden poles and huge turrets sticking out. After each rainy season, the maintenance work is carried out for the spring festival. The wooden turrets sticking out of structure allow workers to scale monument for restoration. The conventional African market is situated around the vicinity of mosque and is held every Monday near mosque. Plenty of traders from several regions in Africa take part in this colorful market. As a city, Djenne was a center for Islam’s propagation. Being a World Heritage Site it is a ‘must see’ in the list of leisure historians and tourists.

The Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve is a Gambia based national park established in the year 1996. This national covers a total area of 220 sq. km. The exact location of this wetland reserve is along River Gambia’s north bank, about 100 km away from the mouth of the river. Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve is even named after one of the tributaries of River Gambia, the Bao Bolon. This tributary emerges from Senegal and travels to meet River Gambia.

The area, which now has the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve, was first declared to be the homeland for this reserve in the year 1993. However, the inauguration of the reserve took 3 more years to happen. Bao Bolong is the first Gambian reserve that is meant for protecting a wetland area.

The entire area of the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve is inhabited by rich flora and fauna amidst different forms of ecosystems. There are some tree species which are declared as protected species by the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve authority; examples of these tree species include: wild mango tree or Cordyla africana, ana tree, Parinari macrophylla, Néré or Parkia biglobosa, Pterocarpus erinaceus etc.

The reserve has a mangrove forest area. Here, you will come across several varieties of mangrove trees, majority of which are located in the Senegambia region of the reserve. The mangrove trees here grow up to 20m in height. Some of the popular mangrove species of Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve are: red mangrove or Rhizophora mangle, black mangrove or Avicennia germinans and Rhizophora racemosa.

The next most interesting flora variety housed by Bao Bolong is salt marsh. The species of salt marches found here include: Sesuvium portulacastrum. How many of us were aware of grasses of different species? During your visit to this reserve, you will get to know and see different species of grasses, for example: Diplachne fusca, Paspalum vaginatum, Sporobolus spicatus, paper reed, Phragmites karka, Echinochloa pyramidalis etc.

The Savanna is flooded with different tree species like Bombax costatum, Terminalia albida, Daniellia oliveri and many such others. The area is also densely inhabited by shrubs; while taking a stroll across the Savanna, you will encounter different fig species, Nauclea latifolia, Anthostema senegalense, Terminalia avicennoides and Physostigma thonningii. The grass species in Savanna include names like Gamba grass or Andropogon gayanus, Pennisetum subangustum, Andropogon tectorum and Beckeropsis uniseta.

Let us now introduce the readers to the fauna of the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve. We are starting with the fish species housed by this wetland reserve. Here, you will get to see both common and rare fish species. Some of the most prominent names among them include: Barracudas or Sphyraena species, Ethmalosa fimbriata, Arius latiscutatus, Polydactylus quadrifilis, Pomadasys perotaei, Pseudotolithus bracygnathus and Pseudotolithus elongatus. The waters of the wetland also play home to common fish species like mullets or Mugilidae and Tilapia. The place is also famous for accommodating an oyster variety called Crassostrea gasar. If lucky, you will also get to witness the blue crab or Callinectes sapidus.

Another specialty of the wetland reserve is a rare mammal species known as the West African Manatees or Trichechus senegalensis. These mammals reside amidst the water area of the mangroves; Trichechus senegalensis is categorized as endangered species. Another aquatic animal species housed by the reserve is Crocodylus niloticus, a reptile better known as Nile crocodile.

The Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve is home to over 32 mammal species. One of the most notable species among them is the African Clawless Otters or Aonyx capensis. You will also come across antelopes such as bushbuck or Tragelaphus scriptus, duiker or Cephalophinae, warthogs or Phacochoerus africanus and sitatunga or Tragelaphus spekeii. The visitors will also surely get glimpses of Crocuta crocuta or Spotted Hyena and Pancthera pardus or leopards.
